Parents are expected to provide unconditional
love and understanding to children in their care regardless
of whether the children are born to them, are adopted or are
foster children. In addition to loving care, parents are expected
to provide encouragement, guidance, discipline and safety until
such time as the children can be reunited with their birth parents,
become adopted or live independently. Always, parents must grant
safety and protection within the framework established by governmental
regulations and the Agency.
As a part of a team engaged to care for children, the foster
and adoptive parent plays a crucial role in the mental and
physical well-being of the children placed in their care. Foster parents are part of an action plan developed with the agency and the Department of Children and Family Services to help children learn to thrive in a loving and nurturing environment.
