The first step is to contact SCFFAA
and speak with a staff member. You will be sent information
about the agency as well as a schedule of upcoming orientations
and classes.
In addition, our Adoption
Program Director is available to meet with you and provide an
overview of the adoption process, covering the different types
of adoption available and answering any questions you may have.
Next, you will be asked to attend an orientation. The orientation will cover such
topics as the foster care system, ways to build a family, the children in the system, requirements
for and benefits of becoming a foster and adoptive parent.
After the orientation, the
next step is the same for adoptive parents as it is for prospective foster parents. There are 21 hours of training
offered in sessions on Thursday evenings from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm or on Saturdays from 9:00 am - 4:00pm. Additionally, you will have
to take First Aid and CPR training, which is offered through the agency, obtain a criminal record clearance and meet all foster care
requirements.
Once all of the documentation is received
a Home Study and Home Inspection will follow (see FAQ's
for further details).
