Children available for adoption through SCFFAA are children who are placed in the Los Angeles County foster care system. The children range in age from newborn to 18 years old. Families interested in adopting a child through the foster care system first become certified by our agency as foster parents.

A child is initially placed in the home on a foster care basis. If the child’s case plan becomes adoption and Children’s Court terminates parental rights the foster family may then be eligible to adopt the child. Under most circumstances a foster family will be given the first opportunity to adopt their foster child if the child is not being reunified with their birth family.

At SCFFAA we dually prepare all our families up front for foster care and adoption.  This reduces the chance that a child could be removed from your home to be placed in another adoptive home if parental rights are terminated.

With this type of adoption, the birthparent(s) specifically make the choice to place their child directly with the adoptive parent(s) strictly for the purpose of adoption. Independent adoptions are usually done in collaboration with an attorney. There are also adoption agencies that work directly with birth parents who voluntarily relinquish their legal rights to the child to the agency.

The agency then assists the birthparent(s) with locating a prospective adoptive family for their child. SCFFAA offers Adoption Home Study Services, Adoption Workshops, Post Placement Services and Post Adoption Services to prospective adoptive parents who are going through the Independent Adoption process with an attorney.

Prospective adoptive families are required to attend the Pre-Adoption Workshop. The cost of the Adoption Home Study is $2000.00, which includes the cost of the Adoption Workshop.

There may be additional costs for other services utilized.

Children born in foreign countries are adopted by prospective adoptive parents in the United States. Each country has its own requirements for an Intercountry Adoption to occur.

SCFFAA has a working relationship with numerous agencies that specialize in Intercountry Adoption.  SCFFAA'S role is to prepare the Adoption Homestudy, Post-Placement Supervision, Re-adoption and the educational component for Southern CA families using an out of state agency for their International Adoption.

Time and experience have taught me a priceless lesson: Any child you take for your own becomes your own if you give of yourself to that child. I have borne two children and had seven others by adoption, and they are all my children equally beloved and precious. - Dale Evans, Adoptive Parent
